Collaboration was essential from the very first steps of my journey. Through my connections with the Ohio State University dance department, I met Liu Mei-Zhu劉美珠 a dancer and a PhD student in somatics. Mei-Zhu and I developed a plan for the video portion of our project, and I made the first visit to China in 1999 to lay the groundwork. By the next year, Mei-Zhu, now teaching in Taiwan, was happy to join me on my return trip to China. At Beijing Dance Academy, we videotaped interviews with dance scholars and artists, including several who have since passed away. I am so very grateful that their words can live on through the interviews.
